Areas of interest where RAP (Resourceful Adolescent Program) is mostly used. We report on a qualitative analysis of 109 Grade 9 students' beliefs about what they gained from an evidence-based depression prevention intervention, the Resourceful Adolescent Program (RAP-A). Fifty-four percent of interviewees articulated at least one specific example of program benefit.
RAP-P is designed to help parents build their self-confidence and, consequently, positively influence their youth to increase their self-worth. In addition, this program seeks to help participants manage negative emotions for themselves and their adolescents and create a supportive home environment. Program sessions include the following:. Parents are People Too - Discuss parenting successes and struggles. Learn how to build self-esteem and cope with stress. What Makes Teenagers Tick - Explore the struggles that adolescents experience, such as issues with identity, self-esteem, and attachment.
Learn how to increase adolescent's self-worth and provide independence to adolescents. Promoting Positive Family Relationships - Learn how to handle family conflict, form a support network, and think positively about the future. Discuss the perspectives of parents and adolescents. A Group Leader's Manual is provided to group leaders to assist with program implementation; participant workbooks are provided to each parent, and a supplementary DVD is utilized during program activities. A self-directed version of the program, which consists of six workbooks, is also available to parents who want to work through the program at their own pace. Group leaders should be in the educational or mental health field (e.g., psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, psychiatrists, mental health nurses, school counselors, chaplains, teachers, and community workers).
A 1-day training is required to facilitate RAP-P groups. Regular trainings are offered in Brisbane and Sydney and by request throughout Australia. Training is also provided in Europe.
The RAP training team will travel to various locations based on the number of requests received. Past training participants have found it helpful to also attend the 1-day RAP-A training course.
Participants attending the RAP-A and RAP-P training courses receive a discount and are given priority over those registering for one training course. Costs per participant for regularly scheduled trainings are $320 to $370 for RAP-P and $590 to $690 for RAP-A and RAP-P combined. For more information on training, please visit.
